joanna & dylan at the university club

When Joanna and I first spoke on the phone, she was very specific. She doesn’t like getting her photo taken and didn’t really want the photography to be a big part of the day. Just enough to satisfy the parents and the few people who might want a “wedding portrait” on their wall. Easy. Or so it seems. My task then becomes letting her feel as if I’m not making a big deal of things, letting her have her day the way she wants it, while still getting the great shots I know she’ll wish she had 10 years from now. It’s a very thin line that I’m frequently asked to tread.

It’s been said if you want good photos, you need to photograph good subjects. Here’s where I lucked out, because not only are Joanna and Dylan attractive, the University Club and the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church where their wedding took place are fantastic to work in. So as long as I was attuned to her vibe and flexible, the portraits turned out great. And once everybody said “I do”, the pressure was off and the party was a gas!
