I came up with this “burger head” idea when I was helping my friend Joe do a headshot session with New York foodie, Dara Pollak. Dara, aka The Skinny Pig, has an awesome blog where she reviews restaurants, shares ideas and recipes, and generally nerds out on all things yum. We were talking about doing a cool, conceptual thing for her, and I said I thought it would be funny to remove her head and replace it with something tasty to eat. We all agreed and then forgot about it.
Fast-forward a year and the idea came creeping back into my noggin. After several false starts, the project came together with a little pushing on my part. We decided to shoot on the Upper West Side and feature a tasty burger crafted by Island Burger, an original NYC burger joint that serves pretty awesome burgers. Dara was a real trooper, letting me push her around to get the shot I wanted, all the while not being allowed to eat the mouth-watering goodness Island Burger had created that was sitting on a plate in front of her.
When we were wrapped, we all got to take a bite and, despite being cool, it was still pretty damn good. Then we cleaned up and went home. Getting Dara’s head back on was a bit of a chore, but in the end I think it was worth it!
Special thanks to my dear friend Emiliya for letting us use her space. Thanks Emiliya!
